Engineer SGH spotlights steel, concrete in “Cutting Carbon” webinar

A “Cutting Carbon” webinar series from leading engineer Simpson Gumpertz & Heger includes a Structural Steel and Concrete installment, October 17, 12 p.m. EST. Presenters Eric Fleet, Julia Hogroian, and Matthew Sander will discuss how structural engineering interests have responded to the call for sustainability; review the current state of practice for using steel and concrete; and, share innovative techniques plus best practices that can significantly mitigate embodied carbon on projects. SGH and peers across architectural, engineering and construction recognize the importance of reducing embodied carbon metrics attributable to extracting, fabricating, transporting, installing, maintaining, and disposing of building materials and raw material components. Their efforts toward net-zero emissions projects are reflected in programs such as the American Institute of Architects’ 2030 Commitment and the Structural Engineering Institute’s SE 2050 Commitment—SGH a signatory to the latter.
