The American Concrete Institute Technical Activities Committee has established ACI 323, Committee on Low-Carbon Concrete Code. Charter members held a kickoff meeting during the Institute’s spring convention in San Francisco, preparing to abide a mission of developing and maintaining code requirements for low-carbon concrete and helping practitioners reduce embodied carbon levels in finished slabs and structures. A new low-carbon concrete code is intended to have a quick turnaround for publication within International Code Council 2025 cycle. While members will initially target consistent code language, the committee’s long term vision is to address sustainability and resilience. New Jersey Institute of Technology Associate Professor of Civil Engineering Matthew Adams is the inaugural ACI 323 chair.
