Concrete Masonry
ASTM C 90 concrete masonry is produced on automated machines that mold 8- x 16-in. or other sized units from dry, or zero slump mixes, with hydraulic press and vibration cycles. The robust vibration contributes to strength development with lower cementitious material content than conventional low to high slump concrete mixes used to cast structural concrete.
ICPI-NCMA, successor organization to the National Concrete Masonry Association, is developing an Industry Wide EPD for conventional concrete block, augmenting declarations that producers have published for enterprise-wide or individual plant reference. The first concrete masonry producer to issue an EPD (2013) is California-based Angelus Block Co., whose current library includes a Sun Valley Plant-specific declaration released in July 2022.
